Florence and the woman’s image in art.
Women have been portrayed in art in two extremes – the sacred or the sinner - the celestial or
the sensual. Florence consistently adopted the sacred and celestial for the Cult of Mary, mother of Christ
while the earthly woman was portrayed as a sinner. In this tour we shall look at how these two extremes
have been expressed in art.

but also for its “sin” of sodomy. In this tour we will talk about this lesser known subject and
shall see how homoeroticism was expressed in different works of art, in both hidden and sometimes
unmistakable ways.
